Our Spot at Keros Beach, Limnos
Surf Club Keros is located on Keros beach, an extraordinary 3 mile beach with crystal clear turquoise shallow waters on the east coast of the island.
THE BEACH
Conditions
What is unique about Keros, is that it combines 3 spots in 1 beach!
We have a complete flat section on the north side, a bump n jump spot exactly where our club is, and a wave section on the south side of the same bay.
You can reach all spots by going upwind/downwind for about 5 minutes, or if you are lazy, make it a 2min car drive!
Safety
Keros beach provides excellent conditions for all users, and most of all, it provides ultimate safety. The sandy beach, shallow waters, and curved bay make it impossible for you to get into trouble! You couldn't possibly ask for a safest place to windsurf or kitesurf, whether you are experienced or a complete beginner. In any case, all our staff have First Aid certificates, and our rescue boat is alert at all times.
Please follow our beach rule guide (COMMING SOON)
Windsurfing
You could not possibly ask for a safer and nicer environment to learn to windsurf. The water is quite shallow close to the beach, which is perfect if you want to learn beach starts or waterstarts and the bay wraps around so even if you drift a little bit downwind you can walk back to the school.
If you are intermediate, you will enjoy the flat water sections on the North side of the bay to perfect your jibes, the bump and jump section in the middle of the bay, and you can introduce your self to wave conditions, in our mini-wave piste on the South end of the bay when it is very windy!
If you are into speedsailing, you will enjoy blasting down the bay, trying to break your personal GPS record. Keros is also great for Slalom training, as there is a variety of conditions, making you an overall better racer. Ask us to set up buoys for you so training can be more fun!
If you are into Freestyle, you've probably come to the right place. Our whole team and instructors are really into freestyle, trying new moves all the time, and just being out in the water with us is quite fun!
Kitesurfing
One of the limitations of this sport is that you need loooots of space. Here at Keros beach YOU HAVE IT! Use up all the space you want (but respect the no-go zones and beach rules!) Here at Keros you can have Kitesurfing Lessons while standing in waist deep water, close to the beach in crystal clear waters.
Whether you are learning how to go upwind, or whether you want to explore the different sections of the beach in one session, you can use up all the space you want.
Begginers can start from our laguna and work their way downwind, trying do their first extended rides (We pay for a second spot a bit more upwind from our school, so you can use it freely as long as you respect our instructors and their students).
Intermediates can try their first jumps as far out as they want, where they have all the space they want, and experts can go up to the freestyle flat section, or stay close to the school and take advantage of the small chop to do newschool wakestyle tricks.
If you are into waves, you can rent out one of our Cabrinha wave boards and give it a go on the South section of the bay!
THE WIND
Wind Conditions
Keros beach works with most wind conditions, although it is best with North or NE (summer meltemi), S and SE. Anything with West in it is gusty, offshore, and shifts a lot.
Luckily the predominant wind is Meltemi, which is mostly present in late June, July and August. In winter NE is also the predominant wind and can be howling, but we dont usually call it Meltemi.
In May, early June, and October it is common to have some South winds, but you never know when you're going to get a NE front, which usually lasts 2-4 days.
Keros beach, and Limnos in general is an average wind spot where 4-6bf days are quite common. On the other hand it can be really windy for a few days, or if unlucky, you can get a week without any wind at all (like all Greek islands that work with meltemi). There is no thermic, but the wind does tend to increase in Keros bay, so you usually have to add 2-3 knots to the windguru forecast, or allso check the wide area forecast.
Summer meltemi: the wind usually starts early in the morning and is at peak between 10:00 and 15:00. Usually around 15:30 the wind shifts to NW (side-offshore) and drops down a bit, making it perfect for beginners or for enjoying the turquoise colors of Keros bay!
Wind forecast
Windguru.com is accurate most of the time. The spot is usually 2-3 knots windier than the windguru forecast, or check the wide area forecast and work out the average.
Meteo.gr is quite acurate but sometimes a bit optimistic. Consider the values you get as the maximum gusts. Check out the NorthEast Aegean forecast. The 'Limnos' forecast is about Myrina, which is on the other side of the island.
MyWeather.gr is the only site with a forecast and a live report for Keros beach.
Live Weather Staton (our MyWeather station is under maintainace at the moment)
*New Live Web Cam (coming soon!)
