Stand Up Paddle surf at Surf Club Keros

History

Stand up paddle surfing, or SUP, is a surface water sport, a variant of surfing where the surfer uses a paddle to move through the water while standing on a surfboard. Stand up paddle surfing is derived from its Polynesian roots. The Hawaiian translation is Ku Hoe He'e Nalu; to stand, to paddle, to surf, a wave.

In the early 2000s Hawaiian surfers such as Dave Kalama, Brian Keaulana, Rick Thomas, Archie Kalepa and Laird Hamilton started SUP as an alternative way to train while the surf was down.

SUP at Surf Club Keros

From the very first moment we were very interested in SUP here at Surf Club Keros.  In 2008 we brought in our first SUP boards, having fun on mini-waves, or simply cruising around when it is flat.
Apart from it being the new worldwide trend, SUP is great excersise and great fun to do.

Stand UP Paddling has many different disciplines, it can be recreational (cruising around), competition (long distance races), and fun on waves.

Recreational SUP: Keros beach has a great landscape for most disciplines. The turquoise waters in the bay, and great rock formations in the end of the bay make it a perfect place for recreational SUP or begginers. Start exploring and you might find some great treasure! There are seal caves near by, small isolated beaches, rocks to dive from, and generaly, lots of fun things to do and see when it's simply flat!

Go long distance! When the conditions are flat, you take our SUP's all around the bay.  You can use our GPS device and measure the distance you have covered!

Waves: Keros beach has suitable waves for SUP very often.  During some evenings after the meltemi, some 1-2ft smooth waves roll in, which are perfect to learn how to catch waves.  Some mornings also start with East winds, that push nice swell into the bay.  South winds are also great, especially when they die out.
